BBC football guru Mark Lawrenson has announced his retirement from football. Focus after working for 25 years

The ex-Liverpool striker is best known for the BBC. With fans having seen each other face-to-face in the Match of the Day and Final Score in recent years.

With the work of football focus. Which is a preview of the game that he has served since 1997 and before the FA final game. The Wembley Cup has been showcase highlighting his time at work during his long career.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was quoted as saying about Lawrenson: “Mark, I heard you’re going to stop working on Football Focus. People tell me you’ve been working for 25 years. But it looks like you can do it for another 25 years.”

“As a legend of football, Focus and Liverpool. I wish you all the best in what you can do in the future.”

“You could be golfing or something with Kenny (Dalglish) you know what to spend your time on, wishes from Liverpool, see you later.”

Lawrenson’s fellow pundit Dion Dublin said: “I’ve done this show a long time and I had Lawro and Garth. They were kind of my mentors when I came into it saying ‘don’t say this’ or ‘do that’. So I’ve listened to these guys and they’ve got me to this position. I want to say happy retirement, well done and thank you.”

Lawrenson famously shaved off his moustache back in 2002 when he lost a bet after Bolton Wanderers stayed in the Premier League.

In 2018 he was given the all-clear after having a cancerous growth removed from his face following a viewer ringing in after noticing it. Lawrenson would later meet and thank the viewer on-air on a future episode of Focus.
