Ford is the top seller of plug-in hybrid vehicles and second in total sales of electrified vehicles in America. The company recently expanded its offerings in growing markets, including Taiwan and Korea, where the company offers the Mondeo Hybrid (equivalent to the Ford Fusion Hybrid). Ford also announced it is bringing the C-MAX Energi Plug-In Hybrid and the Mondeo Hybrid to China.
On December 3rd, Ford announced that iPhone users with SYNC equipped vehicles dating all the way back to the 2011 model year will get Apple Siri-Eyes-Free capability. Siri Eyes-Free allows drivers to activate Siri with a long press of the voice recognition button on the steering wheel, similar activating Siri on an iPhone. The simple, downloadable update will be available through http://owner.ford.com/. I looked today (4th) and didn’t see the update at the website yet for my 2013 Ford C-Max Energi.
According to several media sources, Ford announced today that production of the C-MAX and Focus will move from the Wayne Michigan Assembly Plant in 2018 to another location. UAW Officials understand it will be outside the U.S. The C-MAX is also made in Germany. The Focus is built in several other countries. Although the plant only makes C-MAX and Focus vehicles, Ford said the plant would not be closed. Does this mean anything about the future of the C-MAX Hybrid and Energi? I don’t know. It wasn’t that long ago that the plant was retooled for the Focus and C-MAX after being closed in the 2008 recession. Focus production at the plant started December 2010 and C-MAX in 2012.
