Ford C-Max Hybrid Earns Top Safey Pick for 2014

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests vehicles to determine how well they protect occupants in a crash.  For 2014, the Ford C-Max Hybrid earned a Top Safety Pick award.  The details of the crash testing for the C-Max Hybrid are available at the IIHS website.  It received the top rating in the “Moderate overlap front”, “Side”, “Roof strength”, and “Head restraints/seats” categories.  It received the second best rating, acceptable, in the Small overlap front category.

Last year, the IIHS introduced a Top Safety Pick Plus award.  To qualify for the Plus award, the vehicle must be a TSP and have a basic, advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.  There were just a few vehicles, one being the 2014 Subaru Forester with optional equipment, that had top ratings in all five test categories and a superior rating for Front Crash Prevention.

The Prius V was not awarded a Top Safety Pick because the “Small overlap front” test   was poor, the worst of the possible ratings.  The Prius Lift-back received a Top Safety Pick Plus award.  An article published by the IIHS on small car testing is available on their website.
