The Ford C-Max Energi won the Green Car Vision award for 2012 at the Washington Auto Show on January 26th, 2013. The other finalists were the Tesla Model S, Cadillac ELR, and Mercedes-Benz B-Class Fuel Cell. The Green Car Vision honor, created in 2008, was awarded to the Focus Electric (2011), Nissan Leaf (2010), Chevrolet Volt (2009) and Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell (2008) in previous years. The editor of Green Car Journal, Ron Cogan, lauded the versatility of the C-Max Energi for both interior space and split hybrid powertrain.
The Ford Fusion won the Green Car of the Year award for 2013 at the Washington Auto Show. The C-Max was also a finalist for that award given by Green Car Journal. The Green Car of the Year award only includes production models. The Vision award considers pre-production vehicles in the early stages of commercialization too.
An unrelated web site, Autobloggreen, polled readers for their favorite winner for the Green Car Vision award in an unscientific poll. The readers picked the Tesla Model S overwhelmingly, with 83.6% (600 readers) choosing the Tesla and 2.9% (21 readers) choosing the Ford C-Max Energi.
