2013 Ford C-Max Energi; the European C-Max is very reliable.

Although this blog is on the Ford C-Max Hybrid and Energi sold in the U.S. and Canada, the C-Max is sold with a conventional internal combustion engine in Europe.  The European C-Max has been built at the Ford Valencia Body and Assembly plant in Spain (2010 to present) and at the Saarlouis Body and Assembly Plant in Germany (2003-2010).  DEKRA (Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein or in English: German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association) publishes a Used Car Report based on 15 million vehicle inspections conducted over the past two years.  “Our Used Car Report acts as a guideline for potential used car buyers. It provides detailed information on the faults typically found in a certain model and ranks each vehicle in relation to similar models in the same market segment,” said Dr Gerd Neumann, Member of the Management Board of DEKRA.  According to the report, the Ford C-Max shared the top spot for “Vehicle of the Year” with the BMW Z4.  The Ford C-Max had the best overall DEKRA Fault Index among hatchbacks with a score of 97.7.  The DEKRA report for the C-Max said “The C-Max is exemplary in all categories. It is (in parts significantly) better than the average and will cause its owner few problems well into old age.”

In October, gave Ford models a second-to-last ranking in predicted reliability.  At this point, there isn’t a reliability record for the C-Max Hybrid and Energi; they just started shipping in September and October 2012 respectively.  Ford recently extended the warranty for the problem-plagued MyFord Touch software, an option included some C-Max models.  If Ford can produce the C-Max at the Wayne Michigan Assembly Plant with the same reliability as the Spanish and German Assembly Plants, the C-Max will prove to be a very reliable car in U.S. and Canadian markets too.

I find it disappointing that the C-Max does not appear in the “MPG Savvy” screen on the home page.  The emphasis is on other models when you go to  Why? The C-Max is only available as a hybrid in the US and Canada.  The emphasis for the C-Max is fuel economy.  The C-Max Energi should be front and center.  It costs the equivalent of about $1.70 per gallon to drive for the first 21 EV miles (assuming 40 mpg and 12 cents per kWh).  That’s several thousand miles you can drive the C-Max Energi every year for about half the price of “gasoline” that others are paying.

MyFord Mobile App Working for C-Max Energi

According to Steve Liu, a CMaxChat follower, the MyFord Mobile app is now compatible with the C-Max Energi.  The incompatibility of this app with the C-Max Energi has been a frustration for many early adopters.  I’m posting this blog to encourage owners to use the app.  I would also appreciate feedback on the app posted as comments to this blog.
